2 Things I Can’t Believe

There are 2 things that I can’t believe. One is that I didn’t write about How I Met Your Mother last night and the other is that more people don’t watch this show. I seriously can’t understand how my sister can record 24 instead of one of the best comedies to come along in years.

I don’t know why this show grabs me like it does. There are bad parts. There is cheesy music, and manipulative plots. There are cookie cutter characters and “Willow” is cute, but she really can’t act. But for some reason I find myself captivated by this show. I actually am talking to the television an gasping when things happen. I can’t really explain why, but the show really speaks to me.

I think for me it is the fact that is can be more than just another sitcom. It wants to be more than jokes. It isn’t afraid of dramatic moments in fact it revels in them. I like it in much the same way that I like Scrubs. There are some flaws in both shows, but both shows depict guy friend relationships well and also aren’t afraid to throw in a little sappy music and a serious moment in every show. I don’t know why I am such a sucker for those kinds of sitcoms.

Of course as I watch them I keep thinking how great it would be if Sports Night were back on because it fits into that same category. I guess it was just ahead of its time.

I must admit I enjoyed the first one or two episodes of How I Met Your Mother, but quickly lost interest and haven’t really kept up. Not enough Doogie in it for me, I guess. (And yes, "Willow" is darn cute.)

I am, however, 100% addicted to the best comedy to come along in a while, the American version of The Office. It’s nice to watch a show that a.) isn’t afraid to be politically incorrect, and b.) doesn’t have a laugh track to tell me when something’s funny.

I concur with -B and Mrs. Yates. Forget about trying to figure out who those kids’ mother is; if you are going to watch television, watch Jack Bauer and/or ‘The Office’, they’re both excellent.

Steve Corel (sp?) gets on my nerves because I think he plays that character as way too over the top. If he would play it a little less heavy handed I could like The Office. Of course if you are watching on Thursday "My Name is Earl" is the premire show. As a side note Jason Lee has family here in Eufaula so I no longer think he is such a good actor. He is just mimicking what he sees when he is here.
