A Crazy Night

Nathan fell this afternoon and after a trip to the emergency room we discovered he has a broken collar bone. So it has been sort of wild here tonight. Not only do we need to wait until tomorrow before we see the orthopedist the medicine they gave him for pain made him throw up.

It is real fun to take a puke covered shirt off a boy with a broken collar bone, let me tell you.

Anyway, Meredith is doing most of the hard work now. He won’t let her leave his side so she is still sitting up in the bed with him. She is a pretty cool mom.

My boy also broke his collar bone when he was a little guy (he’s almost 17 now). He was laying in bed one night and rolled out on to the floor. He was under the covers, so he didn’t put out an arm to brace his fall. He landed directly on his shoulder and broke his collar bone. Walking around with your kid’s arm in a sling gets you some suspicious looks. But of course he healed just fine.

Went to the Orthopedist today. He said it was broken, but should heal fine. Sent us home without anything. No cast, sling, brace, or even special instructions other than to come back in a couple of weeks to see how it is healing. I did like the guys logic. Speaking of Nathan he said, "He is smart enough to not do what hurts often enough to be a problem."

There is one funny part about this whole thing. Nathan is on Tylenol with Codeine. So there is this 30 minute window when there is no pain and he gets real giggly and talkative. It is funny to see my son high.
