When it comes to church what do you think God has in mind?
I am asking this question in my youth meeting tomorrow and I was wondering what you guy thought. Please take a moment and leave a comment to answer this question. It doesn’t have to be long, or it can be as long as you want.
Hmmm… quite a question. I think that to specifically "answer" the question would not be too helpful(maybe I’m wrong); different churches are called to "be" church in different ways.
And, I can’t really presume to comment on what God has in mind when it comes to church.
However, I can comment on what I believe church should/can be like:
A few years ago the United Methodist church had a campaign of sorts asking young people to "dream a church". They were asked to finish the statement "I dream a church… ".
Personally,
I dream a church where Christ is the central focus.
I dream a church where God is praised.
I dream a church where people feel welcomed.
I dream a church where everyone can be comfortable enough to be real about their lives, struggles and sins.
I dream a church that builds people up.
I dream a church where Fellowship is a constant.
I dream a church where there are worthy and diverse leaders to look up to.
I dream a church where there are people who are willing, able and called mentors.
I dream a church where young people are seen, along with adults, as leaders.
I dream a church where there is ample oppertunity for growth.
I dream a church that teaches and instructs its members.
I dream a church that is an agent of God’s grace.
I dream a church that is willing to take risks for God.
I dream a church that hopes.
I dream a church that lives the Faith.
I dream a church that loves.
I dream a church that equips.
I dream a church that teaches.
I dream a church that leads.
I dream a church that serves.
I dream a church that laughs.
I dream a church that cries.
I dream a church that studies.
I dream a church that believes.
I dream a church that dreams.
I don’t know if this helps you Shane, or if this is what you were looking for. . .
Peace,
That is exactly what I am looking for. I’m not looking for answers specifically for this lesson, just for your ideas on what church should and could be.
