Remembering my Mission

Youth Pastoring
Lately I have been spending time with lots of new youth. Most of them have been middle school and most of them have been relatively unchurched. I discovered that if I am not careful I will focus more on trying to keep them in line than I do on sharing Jesus with them. This is something I am trying to change. Here is what the situation looks like right now. We have had an uptick in bus kids coming to our church so I have about 4 or 5 people each week who are just not used to church and the culture that we have at church. I have also started working with the after school program at the local middle school and have been struggling trying to find the…

Meeting Report
Last night the lesson was just OK. We did the "band aid praise" activity that I rediscovered when I was going through my hard drive and it "worked" I guess. At least none of the students were disruptive. By the time we got to the lesson, I have no clue where my mind was, but I had little idea of where I was supposed to go next. I sort of stumbled and rambled my way through a lesson on how we aren't supposed to fake it with God, because that was what was in my notes, but I was almost sure that the lesson had a different focus when I was putting it together on Tuesday. A Messed Up Night

Meeting Report
Getting some good feedback about the relook at salvation that I last posted about. Most of them sent me an email directly and I may if I get the time pull some ideas from them and make a new post about it. In the mean time let me hear from some more of you. Last night at church I had the opportunity to take the whole service. I got it in my head that I was going to do a worship service with all guitar music, some videos, some quite time, and a short sermon. As it turns out all of that required an awful lot of video and sound switching and no one who knew how to run any of that stuff was around so I was literally running…

Dart Wars Revisited

Meeting Report
Wow! I am exhausted. It has been a long week. I have eaten more junk food than I have in the past few years put together. Tonight we played a collection of games with Nerf guns. Of course the problem is the same as always, "I shot you! No you didn't" played out about a thousand times. One of the things that I have found to be true about youth is that in one big way they are still like children. They don't understand when they are getting tired. My students always ask why we can't keep playing all night, but what they don't see is that after about 2 hours everyone is getting tired and cranky and there are more arguments than actual shots being fired. If you are doing…
