(vs. 1)
poverty is so hard to see
when it’s only on your tv and twenty miles across town
where we’re all living so good
that we moved out of Jesus’ neighborhood
where he’s hungry and not feeling so good
from going through our trash
he says, more than just your cash and coin
i want your time, i want your voice
i want the things you just can’t give me

(vs. 2)
so what must we do
here in the west we want to follow you
we speak the language and we keep all the rules
even a few we made up
come on and follow me
but sell your house, sell your suv
sell your stocks, sell your security
and give it to the poor
what is this, hey what’s the deal
i don’t sleep around and i don’t steal
i want the things you just can’t give me

because what you do to the least of these
my brother’s, you have done it to me
because i want the things you just can’t give me

Derek Webb formally of Caedmon’s Call has put out a new album. He claims that his mission is to create conversations, so he is giving away “Mockingbird” the whole CD for free on his website. The only catch is that you have to put in 5 email addresses from you friends. (but you can put mine in and 4 fake ones if you don’t feel like pestering others on your email list.)

The CD is very singer-songwriter and does raise a number of questions that are worth exploring, such as the song above. Check it out and then come to the Areopagus with your thoughts.

thanks so much for helping spread the word about i just wanted to comment on something that i read in your post. it’s true, we are asking anyone who is downloading Mockingbird to trade us the free record for telling 5 of their friends about, just to help us get the word out. that seemed like a fair trade to us.

so we’d really appreciate if folks would put in legitimate email address of folks who might enjoy Mockingbird. the more you can encourage folks along those lines the better. however, i’m just glad for folks to have the record.

for folks who don’t want to trade us a few invitations to friends for the record, it’s also available at itunes. it’s $9.99 there, but it doesn’t require that you tell anyone about it.

so thanks so much again for your help with getting the word out! blessings-

I didn’t realize that the CD was available for purchase too. Instead of pimping out emails go and pick it up. It is worth the 10 bucks.
