Doom Live!

614972d56abd_main400_2Eufaula doesn’t have school tomorrow so tonight we had a special guys activity. I had the guys go and pick up Nerf dart guns and we had a war in our church.

It has been a long time since I have played with Nerf dart guns and I have to say I fell in love with my little Maverick (the gun on the left here). It holds 6 darts and feels cool in your hand.

Of course the biggest problem with a Nerf dart war is that once you turn the lights off it is a little tough to know who is getting hit. Unless you hit someone in the face you don’t really know that you hit them.

We played several Halo type games (capture the flag, king of the hill, and a weird protect your flag bearer game) and then in the middle we took a break and had a short devotion. To see picture of us and to see the devotion check us out after the jump.

Acts 1:8 (NIV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

I opened with the verse above and talked about how cool it was that God promises us power, power to go out and change the world.

Then I spent a few moments talking about how we are created in the image of God, and how God calls us as men to be warriors like He is a warrior. I talked about being willing to take risks and do radical things in order to help those who can’t help themselves and share His love with others.

Luke 5:18-20 (NIV)
Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. [19] When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
[20] When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."

These men lived weren’t afraid to take a change and go outside of the normal ways of life in order to get their friend to Jesus. As men we are created to take chances and to go after God with all of our might. God created us to take his love into the world and not to just sit around.

The I closed with this thought…

Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)
Jesus replied: " ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ [38] This is the first and greatest commandment. [39] And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Jesus said that we are to go after God with all that we are. It is more than just sitting and singing a few songs, it is about chasing after God with all of our heart, mind, and strength.

I love to talk on this theme at events that are blatantly male, such as this dart war. It is a safe way that they are taking risks and being daring. I love coupling that with being daring for God and standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.

Yes those are old choir robes, and yes I really did look cool raiding their base with my orange robes flying!

Shane, that was awsome the other night. We need to do it again soon. The best part of the whole night: Stain getting pegged with all those darts on the stairs.
