Future Changes

I have been playing around with some new programs this week. I think I have finally made the switch to Firefox. I liked it from the first time I downloaded it, but I still can’t stop clicking that big blue "e" when I want to get online. I think I am almost out of that now and will be a Firefox user from here on out.

I am also in a 30 day trial of squarespace. It is sort of a blog site plus some extras. It allows me to add simple HTML pages so I am toying with the idea of transfering nailscars.com and this journal over to squarespace. It would be cheaper, and I think a better way of getting new information to you guys.

There are a few things that make me hesitate. 1) I am slowly working up the google list for "youth worship ideas" and I don’t want to lose that. 2) There are some bandwith issues on squarespace if I ever do decide to get into podcasting. 3) I really like saying that I have my own website and that it is something that I put together, not something that anyone can put together off of a web form. Of course nailscars.com isn’t really that cool anymore and I haven’t worked on it in over a year so maybe this will be a better option.

As the month draws to a close I will send you guys the link and let you check it out and see for yourselves.

Shane, A few perhaps-helpful tips from a Firefox convert and devotee:

    1) Check out the extensions that are available. Especially mouse gestures, dictionarysearch, tabbrowser preferences, IE View, and Session Saver. Once you start using mouse gestures, you’ll wish every program that you use had them. IE View allows you to open whatever web page you are on in Internet Explorer, which is quite helpful for those few pages that just don’t load correctly in Firefox.

    2) Delete the little blue ‘e’ from your desktop, you won’t need it anymore.

    3) Did I mention mouse gestures? Oh, I did? Well, good. Use them.

    4) Download the Google Toolbar for Firefox from Google’s website. It’s spectacular.

Totally agree with Andy. I first got firefox to do my online banking when IE had that security issue for several months. I have not used IE since, other than to load a couple of pages I had trouble with. Tabbed browsing is so awesome! Google Toolbar rocks! I am not sure what the mouse gestures are, but I am fixing to find out. It also scrolls so much better with the scroll wheel. My side mouse buttons are back and forward! Really cool! I have been hooked for awhile.

I’m a big fan of the extensions “customize google” and “google preview”. The first lets you choose about 10 different options with your google search including links to other searches and turning off adds. The second is the really cool one becuase it adds a thumbnail of the website in the google search. I don’t know why I think that is cool, but I am hooked.
