Good Censoring?

I don’t know if you have heard about Kathy Griffin being censored for remarks made about Jesus on the creative Emmy award show, but you can read about it here.

I am of two minds about this. Part of me is glad that they will still censor things that are offensive to Christians. I thought that Christians and white males were the only people in the country left that you could actually make fun of. While I find that cool I think to cut her remarks out of the show is ridiculous.

For one thing, what she said was funny. I don’t think she was making a huge "I hate Jesus" statement; she was making a joke. It might have been in bad taste, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be on the air. On top of that she is making fun of people who I think are much more offensive to me as a Christian. I would much rather Kathy come out and make a joke than some singer who sings every song about sex thanking God for helping her win the award. To me that is much more detrimental to our faith than a joke.

But even if she did have every intent to offend every Christian in the nation, even if she did say it because she really wants Jesus to "suck it",  she still should be allowed to say it. She has the freedom to say what she feels. Everyone then has the freedom to have an opinion about her and say what they feel about her as well. Don’t censor it. Let it air and then watch the fun as the fundamentalist go crazy.
