Back when I was youth pastor 10 or 12 people (and we had a 15 passenger van), back before we had kids and Meredith could be my chaperone for everything I loved planning the youth calendar. It was fun to think of exciting places that we could go to strengthen our bond and to help students grow closer to Christ.
Now I see my calendar sitting beside me and I want to groan. I still love going places with students. I still love the ways that trips help us to grow, but it is a whole new process now. Our group has grown (and now shrunk a little) to the point where we will take over 20 people to most events. Not quite enough to make renting something feasible, but still enough that I need 3 or 4 drivers. We also need more chaperones so all planning requires chaperone coordination too.
I have tried many different ways to use parents to do more of that sort of planning, but honestly I rarely follow through.
Maybe instead of whining about an intern I just need to use parents the way that they supposed to be used.
This is Darren, from Shanerica Industries calling….
And the intern will do what…….plan the trips? Or be another chaperone?
both, but yesterday I really wanted someone to do all of the little things that are involved with planning the calendar.
oooOOOoo…buck passer…..lol.
