It’s Just Life

Our church secretary for the past 26 years suffered a series of mini-strokes last week. She is doing much better now and is slated for surgery in the coming weeks. So she has chosen this as an opportune moment to retire. So this week has been a little on the crazy side. Here are a few of the other things going on:

We are kicking off a new Children’s Church program (so there are lots of logos and logistics to finalize)

We have our annual Trunk or Treat extravaganza tomorrow night (anyone else do the Trunk or Treat thing? It is great. We started this several years ago, at the time we were the only church in our community doing it. Now we are one of about 10)

I was getting ready to head to LifeWay to meet before my next writing assignment. As it turns out I missed the message about the date chage so I have been planning to leave a whole week early.

Since I thought I wa leaving I have been trying to have everything set up and ready at church before I left. Now it looks like I didn’t need to do that.

I guess that is all. It sure does seem like I am involved in more things than that. I think I need to buy a new organizer. Yeah, I’m sure that will help me keep track of things.

I’ve heard of the "Trunk or Treat" before. Maybe it was here or another blog. What exactly is it? How does it work?

I first heard about Trunk or Treat from a magazine about 6 or 7 years ago now. What you do is have people from your church come to your parking lot and open up their trunks to give away candy. Children come and walk around to each car and then head out. It is a good way for children to get a bunch of candy with only one stop for the parents. Some churches have fall festivals and then the trunk or treat thing after that. We just have the candy time. People are asked to register so that we can pray for them and so that we can count, but the main thing is just letting our community know that we care and getting a chance to talk to them as they go around.

One cool thing about Trunk or Treat is that it is a good way to get your whole church involved because you ask everyone to bring a bag of candy. That is an easy opportunity for many people to help with outreach.
