Live and Learn

I preached a sermon tonight that was really just a recap of an old youth lesson. The idea was that we as Christians tend to compartmentalize our lives and only let God into certain areas while holding other areas all to ourselves. Anyway, the culmination of the sermon was an activity where people put strips of paper into a container to represent their own compartmentalized life and ask God to help and heal them and tear down the walls.

Well the cool thing about it was when I was giving some of the youth the containers and the strips of paper to pass out they remembered actually doing the activity themselves and after just a few minutes were able to remember what the point was. I was blown away. I barely remembered it. It was cool to know that they actually do listen sometimes.

I also learned something important tonight. It is hard to quickly pass out stuff like that in a church full of people. There were less than 100 people there tonight and passing the stuff out still took way too long. I should have had more people helping and given each of them an assigned section. Oh well, I guess you live and learn.

  1. when i first realized that my students actually listened to me it scared me to death. i have no problem talking in front of groups but the thought of people actually listening to me when i talked out of GOD’s word scared me.

Amen! I think most of my “professional” Christian life is one terrified moment after another.
