On Friday Meredith and I went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Alabama Shakespeare festival. It was divine. We were sitting on the third row right in the middle. It was cool being that close and the play was fun. I think for me the best part though was before the play started. There is something about sitting in a beautiful theater surrounded by other people who are excited about watching something magical. There is a sort of buzz in the air that I don’t get many other places.
Tonight I went to our high school’s production of Alice in Wonderland. It is a drug trip of a story, but the students did an excellent job. It was the best time I have had watching something put on by the high school since I have been here. It wasn’t the same as Shakespeare Festival, but it was still fun and above all it was live theater.
These two things made me realize how much I miss real theater. It has been so long since I have been able to do any type of acting at all and even longer since I have been able to do a real theater sort of play. There is just nothing quite like standing in front of an audience and knowing that you have connected with them. I want to be an actor again. (sigh)
