Have you ever wished you could turn off your church for a week so you could get some new ideas, or maybe flesh out the ideas you have a little better. We are expected to be creative, funny, inspiration, practical, and somehow God-inspired with a turn around time of less than a week. The more I look at it the reason that churches are doing the same things over and over again isn’t because they love the tradition so much but because there is no time to really go after something new.
Can you imagine the uproar if the pastor and staff walked out and said, “we have some new ideas and believe that God is calling us to use you guys and your creativity and to go deeper as a church than we have ever been before so we are going to cancel church for the next 3 weeks so we can get ready.” I don’t know if that would fly in most churches. It would be cool though. We could have church and just not plan anything for those 3 weeks just let people get up and speak what was on their hearts and sing whatever they wanted. It might be heresy every now and then, but at least it would give the staff time to find their new voice.
Alright so it is really bad that I quote myself, but I still feel very strongly about this. I am thinking about stopping our Wednesday night lessons in December so I can get ready to re-launch our minstry in January. I don’t know how that will work, but it is just something going through my head.
