I had planned to write something longer yesterday, but I spent the whole day knee deep in calendars and event websites. For the past several years I have intended to give them parents a letter at the beginning of the new year that laid out all of the important dates and costs for the entire year. This year I was determined to actually make that happen. I spent 4 hours yesterday just digging up dates for things that are happening as far out as June and July and trying to come up with costs for them.

This year we are doing a modified version of the 30 hour famine that I am ingeniously calling the 24 hour famine. We are raising money for Lifewater International. For the past year now I have been burdened for Africa and their need for clean water. This will help raise awareness and should help raise some money as well. Part of this 24 hours we will be doing a Food Drive and Ebay Scavenger hunt where students will go and collect food for a local food bank and collect items that can be auctioned on Ebay with the proceeds going to Lifewater. It should be a fun time.

Only partly off subject, I went to a website last week called They make devices that actually create clean drinking water out of air. With the money we spend helping other countries, why can’t we send a few of these puppies to places where they’re really needed?

Strangely enough, the first time I saw one of these contraptions, "Pimp My Ride" was installing one in somebody’s car. Not exactly what I meant by "where they’re really needed".

That might work really well here in the south where you can almost drink the air anyway, but what about in a desert? or in Naperville where there is like zero humidity?

So whats up with the random suggestion of Naperville? Just curious. I used to live there when I was in elementary school. I haven’t been back there since then though.

Shane and I went to high school together in KY. I now live in Naperville.

Are you signing up other people to do this famine? I didn’t think you missed meals for anyone. All I can say is watch out Subway. After 24 hours of no food, Shane is going for a personal record–3 ft of sub. Seriously, sounds great. Should be fun.

Andrew, how do you like Naperville? I just kind of remember my neighborhood and I went to Beebe Elementary. I think one of the main streets was Columbia.

    John, send me an email.
