The Adventures of God and Stickboy

Yes, that is the title of our Winter Retreat this year. Can you believe it? I am in love with the idea. After 3 years of Lord of the Rings retreats with very serious feeling themes and ideas we decided to go a little more light hearted. The ideas is a superhero theme with all of the sessions being on the call of Moses. It should be fun, and I think very challenging too.

We are trying to come up with a blend of old heroes and new heroes, focusing mainly on the cartoons. If you have an old cartoon hero that you loved drop me a comment. Here are a few that we were remembering.

Mighty Mouse
Green Lantern
Mixleplix (sp?) and if he is in your room you defeat him by making him say xilpelxim
Danger Mouse (not the new mix artist, but the old cartoon)
He-Man
Captain Cave Man
Thundercats
And a whole plethora of traditional cartoon characters.

Some non-superhero things that I also thought about:
The Snorks (weird sea creatures with tubes on their heads)
The Littles
SilverHawks
Gilligan’s Planet (now that is a strange one)
G.I. Joe
The Transformers when they were cool

What are some of your cartoon memories?

My older brothers were into the comic-book superheroes – Captain America and the Fantastic Four, that sort of thing – as well as the Sgt. Rock and His Howling Commandoes stuff. I was into Richie Rich and Archie – for cartoons it was strictly old school Loony Tunes.

I still collect the Looney Tunes stuff. Tonight the Missus and I were once again carrying on about whether I get to put the Looney Tunes ornaments on the tree!

Wasn’t Mr. Mixelplix, or however you spell it, a bad guy?And if the Thundercats count as super heroes, than the Silverhawks TOTALLY count as super heroes, too.I really liked the Plastic Man or whatever that super stretchy guy was. He was a cartoon, and not the guy from the Fantastic Four. But very similar.I also liked the Wonder Twins from Super Friends. Zan and Jayna or whatever their names were. They’d be like, “Wonder Twin powers, activate!” and the guy would always be like “Form of a bucket of water!” and the girl would be like “Form of a giant eagle!” and then she’d pick up the bucket of water in her talons and use it to put out some huge forest fire. They were sweet.

I remember Mixelplix from the superfriends. He was from the 5th dimension and if you could get him to say his name backwords then he would loose his powers.

Man it’s been a long time since I’ve been to your blog.

Just the other day I screamed at the top of my lungs "cccccccaaaaaaaapppppptttttaaaaaiiiiiinnnn CAVEMAN" and it scared the crap out of my group of middle school students. Ahh the memories of saturday morning cartoons.

My Middle School group had know idea about him.

My other "Superhero" that I loved was ScrappyDoo.
