Youth Group Name Changes

I am a strong believer in re-branding, but mainly because I think it is fun. In my 9 years that I have worked at this church we have used 3 different major identities. (Refuge, The Journey, and now Catalyst). Included in those is about 100 different ways to refer to the ministry as a whole (CSM, Catalyst Student Ministry, Calvary Student Ministry, Calvary Youth, etc).

I have just recently changed the colors of our logo and our letterhead (while keeping the catalyst name) and I think it is probably my favorite look so far. What I was wondering is whether I am the only youth pastor who cycles through names like this or is it something that others do. Let me know the name of your group and some of the names of your past.

We right now have the name "Activate." We used to be called Elevate, but we just got a new YM and we changed the name. It really just refers to our Wed night programming, but that really is our YG time.

I just found your blog and I’m enjoying reading through your thoughts. As far as names go, I think that more than anything they can put into a word where your student ministry is in its journey. Right now we have a bunch of high school students who have need to be introduced to a different perspective on what it means to follow Jesus, so we call our high school worship service "FUSE". Its all based around fusing our lives together with the movement of God’s Kingdom throughout the world. Our JH worship experience is called IGNITE because we have alot of JH students who need to ignited with passion with a love for God and for others. So, because every group that will come through is different from the previous group, I think name changes are okay every now and then.
